Launched in 2010 for the 10th edition of the Marrakech International Film Festival (FIFM), this contest is aimed at students of Moroccan cinema institutes and schools.
Through the short film competition, the FIFM Foundation wishes to develop a space for cinema creation and job opportunities for budding filmmakers, and to create during the Festival a real platform promoting exchanges between seasoned professionals and young directors.
it is also a unique opportunity to introduce school Cinema for the first time in Morocco and within a prestigious event.
This Cinécoles short Film Prize is aimed to reveal and bring to light, amongst students of Moroccan cinema schools and institutes, a new talent on the cinema scene.
In 2011, the prize is awarded for the second time and 10 short films will take part in the competition. His Royal Highness Prince Moulay Rachid, President of the Marrakech International Film Festival Foundation, grants an amount of 300,000 dirhams exclusively dedicated to the making of a second short film.
The whole grant will be managed by the FIFM Foundation and will be exclusively dedicated to the making of a short film that will have to be completed within three years after the awarding of the Prize. the Marrakech international Film Festival Foundation will support the making of the film by overseeing the writing, directing and editing process.
In 2010, the first Cinécoles short Film Prize was awarded to Mahassine El Hachadi for her short film apnée (10 minutes, ESAV Marrakech).
