It is also this way that the FIFM wide opens its doors to Great Britain ( after Italy, Spain, and Egypt) with a focus on 40 years of British cinema , with “IF” by Lindsay Anderson and “Wind Rises” ( le vent se Léve) by Ken Loach : Two “Palmes d’or” showing British cinema vitality through artistic and aesthetic choices and mainly through a marvellous opening on the other as to its relation to American cinema .
British cinema gave indeed to Hollywood imminent talents like Alfred Hitchcock, and has at the same time received great figures of American cinema to provide them with an expression space for creation namely Stanley Kubrick or Joseph Losey .Hitchcock, Losey, Kubrick are on the program of Marrakech in the context of homage to meeting careers and destinies.
The map of the cinematographic world of the FIFM is at the image of its diversity .After Great Britain the public will travel to Siberia with the Russian moviemaker Andrei Konchalovsky, an author whose cinema reflects the hardships of life.
FIFM never forgets great friends of Marrakech who have accompanied the evolution of the festival, Youssef Chahine. The festival pays him the homage he deserves as he presented the best and richest filmography mainly with “Central Train Station” , “The Earth” or movies from his trilogic biography .
Morocco will be of course present at the FIFM.
First, for a symbolic reason: Moroccan cinema celebrates this year its fiftieth anniversary and the FIFM will dedicate one of the special reception to the issue.
Second, to its actual dynamic that makes Moroccan cinema gives to the FIFM three movies within the official selection: “Kandisha “by Jerome Cohen-Olivar for the official competition; “DoYou remember Adil?” By Mohamed Zineddaine in the section” Coup de Coeur”; and “Amours Voilés” by Aziz Salmi out of competition.
This year will insist on its wide opening on the city with projections dedicated to a particular category of inhabitants, the non hearing and the non seeing persons by providing all the adequate means to these members of the population to make them follow the festival’s films with utter autonomy.
A real pace to the civic integration in symbiosis with the humanist philosophy of the FIFM.
