It has been ten years now, at the initiative of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, that the Marrakech International Film Festival (FIFM) has been inviting the spirit of film-loving to Morocco to spark both fertile contact and deep reflection on the 7th Art..

Year after year it has grown into the hopefully harmonious edifice, which today, on the occasion of its tenth anniversary, we present to you with a certain pride. Our competition section, with its discoveries and confirmations is excellent indeed, as is the composition of our juries and the pertinence of the annual choice of national film-making honoured, as well as the rich eclecticism of the personalities paid tribute to on stage at each of our ten sessions.

Very fine also is the FIFM’s idea of presenting international and national films to the And it is no accident that the FIFM’s search for young talent coincides with this year of tribute to French cinema which constitutes, par excellence, the very infancy of cinema itself. Ever since that train entering Ciotat station set in motion the thrill of cinematic spectacle.

Together, may we find this year, in this magic city of Marrakech, the magic of the first images of the cinematograph.

And may we also, buoyed by the growing relevance of the FIFM, continue to rise to the challenge of revealing new talents and offering the world a true image of contemporary Morocco, homeland of creators.

Marrakech International Film Festival Foundation President visually-impaired and the wonderful lessons in film-making given by emblematic figures in world cinema before transfixed lovers of the 7th Art, who have come to Marrakech from every province in the kingdom, and sometimes from very distant places to listen with fervour.

So this FIFM has indeed become a great edifice, whose striking images and vivid colours one could reel off in kaleidoscopic fashion to infinity.

Yet for all that we would like to insist on something new this year. It is a simple idea that arrives just at the right moment. The FIFM has decided to partner our country’s budding talent. So we have gone to the Kingdom’s various film and audiovisual schools in search of fledgling directors’ first efforts to compete for a prize allowing the best of them to undertake, in professional conditions, the making of a first short film.

His Royal Highness Prince Moulay Rachid
